Italian Chocolate Meatball Cookies (from scratch)
An everyday snack favorite. Easy for children to make.
2 cups sugar
1 cup cocoa
1 ¼ cup melted shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cloves
1 tbsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. nutmeg
1 cup walnuts (optional)
2 cups milk
7 ¾ cups flour
1 32 oz. bag chocolate chips
Confectioner's sugar
Milk
Combine sugar and cocoa. Add milk and melted shortening. Mix until smooth. Add salt, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well. Add nuts, if desired. Blend in milk. Add flour a little at a time until dough is no longer sticky. Add chocolate chips and roll into balls approximately 1½" - 1¾" in diameter. Place on baking sheet and bake at 325° for 12 minutes. Once cooled frost with mixture of confectioners sugar and milk.
